Calhan Paint Mines
The Paint Mines Interpretive Park is located in Calhan; northeast of Colorado Springs. In the park you see red, purple, yellow, and orange colored clay deposits. The clay was used by Native Americans for making colorful pottery and (ceremonial) paint.

Paint Mines Trail Map
There are several trails that you can hike. They are not very long but be careful as there is absolutely no shade in the area.

Numerous signs display information about the geological and historical background of the area. Other signs tell you about the various animals and plants that can be found in the park.

Calhan, Colorado
Calhan is a town located in El Paso County, Colorado. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 896.

Geography
Calhan is located at 39°2'7" North, 104°17'59" West (39.035395, -104.299835)GR1.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.9 km² (0.7 mi²). 1.9 km² (0.7 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
